Advertise with us

ECA is run by volunteers and funded by membership fees and the odd grant. A handful of local businesses paying for a spot on this site covers real costs — the events, the settlement packages we post out, the hosting — without asking members for more.

What you get

A single banner — your own artwork, across the width of the page, linking to your website or social page. It is marked Advertisement so nobody mistakes it for something we wrote, and there is only ever one per page, so it is not competing with three others.

Send us an image around 1600 by 300 pixels and we will put it up as it is. Check it still reads on a phone, where it appears about a fifth of that width — if in doubt, fewer words and bigger ones. No artwork? Any decent designer will do one cheaply, and we can point you to somebody.

Right now those pages are the home page, events,news and the community directory. There are no pop-ups, no autoplaying anything, and nothing on Get help — that page is for people in difficulty and it stays free of advertising.

What it costs

We have not set rates yet — this is new, and we would rather agree something sensible with the first few businesses than publish a number we made up. Tell us what you have in mind and we will come back to you with a figure and how long a run lasts.

How many people will see it

We are not going to quote you an audience figure you cannot check. The site is new. What we will do, if you ask, is show you what our analytics actually reports for the pages you are considering — page views and where readers came from, which is all it collects. Decide from the real number.

What we will not run

The committee decides what goes on the site, and some things are refused whatever the budget. It is fairer to say so here than after you have asked:

• Gambling, betting apps and payday or short-term lending. These target people short of money, which is a good part of who reads this site.
• Migration advice from anyone not registered with the OMARA. Charging a new arrival for immigration help is regulated for a reason, and we will check the registration number.
• Political parties, campaigns and candidates. ECA is non-partisan, and stays that way on Eritrean and Australian politics alike.
• Crypto, trading schemes and anything promising a return. We are not in a position to tell a legitimate one from a scam, so we run none of them.
• Anything made to look like a news story or a committee announcement. Every advert here is labelled as one. That is not negotiable.

We may also say no simply because something is not a fit for a community association. Nobody has to justify a refusal beyond that.

Your advert will not track anybody

Every advert here is an image we hold on our own server, next to a link. There is no Google AdSense, no ad network, no tracking pixel and no cookie — which means we cannot tell you how many people clicked, and it also means nothing about our readers is handed to you or to anybody else. That trade is deliberate, and it is the same promise made on ourprivacy page. If you need click-level reporting, this is not the right place to buy it.
